| Independent Inquiry Into Access To Healthcare You may know that people with learning difficulties generally have worse health than other people. But did you know that in the UK they also tend to get a lower standard of healthcare? Well, according to recent Government findings this is the case. So recently The Government set up an independent inquiry to look at how the NHS provides healthcare for people with learning disabilities. They concluded that many parts of the NHS might be in breach of the Disability Discrimination Act because they do not take the reasonable measures to communicate effectively with people with learning difficulties. Their final report contains many recommendations for change that could provide guidance to many other organisations, as well as the NHS, on effective, accessible communication.
